Windows And Mac - Major Operating Systems For Average Users

By Mary Davies

As long as some people like Windows OS and others like Mac OS, the debate will never be settled. People will always choose what they like, and both will be chosen by someone, because they have important benefits. Some applications work better on a Mac, and some better on Windows, so what you need will depend on how you are using your computer. There are advantages of each system, and we will place our focus on those areas.

If security is a major concern for you, Windows is not your best choice. It's well-known that the vast majority of computer viruses are directed at Windows users. This is largely because more people use Windows, but whatever the reason, you are much less vulnerable on a Mac. The same is true for things like spyware and malware. This also means that if you do get a Windows OS, you will have to spend time and money on anti-virus software and make sure that it's always updated. Of course, even if you have a Mac you should take precautions, but the threats will be far fewer. At the same time, you should remember that there are also many security issues that come down to your own actions, such as revealing your personal data to scam artists and hackers. So you have to use common sense no matter what kind of computer you're using.

As an ultrasound technician it is vital to identify the things I need when considering operating system, so as not to postpone any specific project that I may be doing in the future. When you get a Mac computer, already installed will be a wide variety of software programs that are useful. iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie and iWeb are all part of iLife, which comes with your Mac computer. You will be able to edit, organize and share your videos and photos with these programs. When your computer has Windows, there isn't much in the way of software that it comes with. If you read the fine print, you will notice that a lot of software you are getting are free trials, so you are not getting all of the software you think you are. Many of these programs have to be upgraded to use them, after a month or so. If your PC was inexpensive, you can expect this. When comparing the price of a PC to a Mac, this is something to take into consideration.

When Mac OS X Lion, one of the new features is a security that will keep you protected if someone steals your laptop or notebook. Remote Wipe is a feature that has been out for a while on the iPhone, but it is new for bigger computers. This will help you remotely erase your whole hard drive if your computer is lost or stolen. If you keep any sensitive or personal information on that computer, it will offer you some real peace of mind. This feature works in concert with iCloud and it is only available with Lion OS. So far there isn't anything that really compares to this on Windows computers. Obviously it also helps to back up any data that you think is important so that if you ever need to erase your hard drive you aren't going to lose anything important.

When choosing a computer, your first decision is on the operating system you want, either a Mac or Windows. A Mac has a convenient interface, and a nice appearance, while a PC has more versatility and a lower price. The OSs of both have been compared, so you should know which one has the most advantages, making your decision an easy one.
