About Ethernet Cables

By Irvin Martin

Setting up your ethernet cables for all your computers at home to create a home office, a gaming system or a computer network had never been easier. Standard sizes cables that are sold in different stores have varying sizes that might not be enough for you because they are very short or very long. If you have your own Ethernet cables will give you the proper sizes to fit in your room.

If you plan to wire your own Ethernet cable and cat 5 connector at home, it's very easy to do it if you want to be thrifty and you are skilled in it. You can do it yourself. You have to use connectors, cable and wire cutter. It is advisable to purchase in bulk these connectors and cables, and it can be found in your local electrical or computer stores.

It is required to have the minimum cat 5 (or category 5) for all of your Ethernet cable's connectors and wires. Different kinds of cable are sold for particular functionalities. For different functions with higher categories choose the braided and solid cables. If you need to patch wire desktops and cables, you can choose the flexible and resilient braided cable. If your cable will just stay in one place and needs longer lengths then choose the solid cable. Various cables have similar look inside.

You will see eight wires with different colors and are twisted together into four pairs. Typically each pair have one white wire with a colored stripe that matches the one solid wire. The wires will be installed in the connectors that serves as a guide.

The solid or braided wire must fit perfectly with our connector because you need to match the type of cable with your cat 5 connector. Having an eight position modular connector, and looks like a large phone jack, the RJ45, is definitely the most common cat 5 connector available.

After making sure that you already have your connectors and matching cables ready then take away the outer portion of the wire to expose the colored wires beneath it. You should match the colored wires with the corresponding pin on the cat 5 connector, that is why you need to have a diagram. These diagrams are found online or is available with your connectors or cable, so be sure you should check with your electronics or computer retailer. As you finish connecting your wire to its respective cable, then you are ready.
